External Control Functions of the SP-3U/6U Series (Part 1)

The power supplies of the SP-3U/6U series can set and monitor their output status via the external control port using external digital and analog signals.

The external control function controls the actual output voltage, current, or power of the instrument by applying a voltage between 0 V and 10 V or between 0 V and 5 V to the designated pins, and limits the voltage / current / power output within a specified range.

> **Caution:** Before connecting any device to the external control analog port of the power supply, make sure that the input range of the external device does not exceed the maximum limits of the analog port.

 

This menu displays the settings of the external control function, which can be configured as required.

 External Control Functions

The external control of this series of power supplies provides the following functions:

Reference Voltage

5 V or 10 V can be selected according to test requirements.

Digital Input

- **External Enable** – Enables the external control mode via a high/low level input.

- **Output On** – Turns the output of the power supply on or off via a high/low level input.

- **Inhibit** – Forcibly disables the output via a high/low level input.

 Digital Output

- **Overvoltage** – Overvoltage warning.

- **Overtemperature** – Overtemperature protection warning.

- **Overcurrent** – Overcurrent protection warning.

In addition, the operating status of the external control mode and the input analog signal values can be read on the monitoring screen.

Notes

1. Pin 13 is multiplexed for the A/B function in special mode. The output parameters of the power supply are switched by the high/low level of Pin 13.

2. Pin 7 is multiplexed for the output inhibit function. The output of the power supply is forcibly turned off by an external high level.

Application

The external control function can be applied in special test scenarios to protect test personnel and facilitate long-distance control. It also allows the power supply to be connected to the device under test through the external control terminals, building a complete control system through circuit connection.
